U.S. average. Data for 2004 showed that Kentucky’s work force produces almost two percent more output

Kentucky employers have five options for workers' compensation coverage, allowing businesses to
choose the most affordable option. Kentucky businesses can become self-insured; join a self-insurance
group for a group of 20 or more employers with a common interest or membership in a bona fide trade
organization; form a captive insurance company for purposes of providing workers' compensation
insurance for itself and any subsidiaries or affiliates; purchase coverage from private insurance
companies on a competitive basis; or purchase coverage from the Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance
