Broadband Network
ConnectKentucky is
an initiative supporting the growth and development of technology in Kentucky by
accelerating broadband expansion, research, governmental affairs, public relations,
and high-tech recruiting. CITE (the Center for Information Technology Enterprise),
the administrator of ConnectKentucky, continues to encourage collaborative partnerships
and investment in the technological infrastructure and network of Kentucky.
Innovation and Commercialization Centers
The Innovation and Commercialization Center (ICC) program was created in
July 2001. ICCs are public/private partnerships that assist the state's
entrepreneurs and scientists to commercialize technologies that demonstrate
significant market potential. Kentucky's ICCs are designed to serve entrepreneurs
who want to create technology-based companies and scientists who want to commercialize
technologies. ICCs help scientists and entrepreneurs understand the business start-up
process and investment practices. The ultimate goal of the ICCs is to create
investment-grade companies.
Collectively, DCI supports the operations of six regional ICCs (and six
local Innovation Centers, or ICs) that provide a cohesive statewide framework
for delivering business-building services and assisting in finding funding.
The ICCs and ICs bring together experts from the business sector, universities,
community and technical colleges, local communities, and state government to
create, advise, and expand knowledge-based companies.
What are Innovation and Commercialization Centers
ICCs and ICs provide locally accessible, business-building and related services
to Kentucky's entrepreneurs and scientists
- ICCs and ICs link scientists and entrepreneurs to funding sources like the High-Tech Investment Pool R&D Fund and the
Rural Innovation Fund created by the Kentucky Innovation Act.
- ICCs and ICs help convert good ideas into investment-ready enterprises.
